SPYY
SPYY (Saturn Precision Yo-Yos) was a boutique Canadian yo-yo manufacturer based in Calgary, Alberta. Founded by mechanical engineer Steve Buffel — who began experimenting with yo-yo design as a side project at his motorsports engineering firm in 2003 — the company launched its first consumer products in early 2006 and quickly earned a reputation for precision machining, tight tolerances, and thoughtful design. All SPYY yo-yos were manufactured in Canada.
The brand built a world-class team including Guy Wright, Ed Haponik, Alexis JV, Nate Sutter, Sebastian Brock, and Jonathan Robinson. SPYY collaborated with fellow Canadian company CLYW on the Galactic Goose, and with wood yo-yo maker TMBR on the annual eH fixed-axle signature series for Ed Haponik. The company officially closed on July 20, 2013, having shipped approximately 10,000 yo-yos over its lifetime. Buffel returned in 2015 with the limited TYY-01 titanium release and continued the eH wood series through 2016.
