The Speed Freak was built for one purpose: raw speed. Its V-profile with low edges and an inverse-round step near the bearing seat concentrated mass away from the rims to minimize rotational inertia and maximize acceleration. At 63.5g it was the lightest model SPYY had released to that point. The bead-blasted orange/red two-tone finish gave it a striking look. SPYY acknowledged the design trade-off openly, describing it as built for speed at the cost of stability.
