About tmbr.
tmbr. (stylized with a lowercase “tmbr” and a trailing period; formally TMBR Toys) was a Portland, Oregon yoyo company founded in September 2011 by Colin Leland. The company specialized exclusively in wooden fixed-axle yoyos, distinguished by meticulous hand-turned construction and an ongoing commitment to advancing fixed-axle play at a time when the broader yoyo market had largely moved to metal bearings.
TMBR’s most significant technical contribution was the Woodthread Axle System (also called the Reversible Woodthread Axle) — a fully wooden three-piece take-apart axle with no metal components. Where earlier TMBR models used a simple wooden peg axle, the Woodthread system allowed players to replace worn axles, adjust gap geometry, and (on compatible models) reverse the halves to reconfigure the profile between butterfly and imperial shapes.
The company produced a standard catalog of named models alongside approximately 52 one-off “#FixedFriday” custom throws. Its most notable ongoing product line was the eH — an annual holiday release created in collaboration with SPYY and pro player Ed Haponik, released each year from 2012 through 2018 and culminating in the deHcade in December 2021 as TMBR’s final model. TMBR closed circa 2023.
