Typhoon Folio 3140

About

Released in 1999 at $15 USD, the Typhoon was a landmark product: the first production yo-yo to feature a plastic ball bearing. Designed jointly by Arne Dixon and engineer Don Heaverlo, it used SuperYo’s patented IntelliGap adjustable gap system — the gap could be increased or decreased by twisting the halves without releasing any loose parts. Marketed as requiring no lubrication.

The plastic bearing was a genuine engineering innovation at the time, predating the widespread adoption of SPEC and C-size metal bearings in budget yo-yos.
