We are taking a detour from our typical YoYo offerings to venture into the undersized domain. The introduction of parallel was groundbreaking, as it made an undersized YoYo feel indistinguishable from a regular-sized YoYo on the string. The experience that parallel offered caught players off guard. We went back to the drawing board, choosing the D bearing as our preferred option. I strongly believe that designing a YoYo with a specific bearing size in mind allows for tailored optimization. We found inspiration in classic organics, incorporating a unique Motion twist. This YoYo is likely to leave a lasting impression on everyone.”
Centrifugal was one of the most popular YoYo designs we have done, and over here at Motion we do things a little backwards from most brands. We typically focus a majority of our products toward the bi-metal market, however, we have been exploring the mono metal designs much deeper.
When we release a mono metal yoyo we want the characteristics to not only reflect Motions characteristics but also perform at the highest levels of anything else available In the market.
At Motion we are enthusiasts first and sales last, when we make a product we want that product to fill a specific gap somewhere. Centripetal does just that.
So what inspired the design?
The design was inspired largely by Centrifugal.
There are some traits on this YoYo that we wanted to achieve, as always, and aesthetics can never be ignored and need to remain just as closely tied to performance.
The YoYo is designed in a way that the rim weight is not compromised by being a mono-metal design, we were able to manipulate the body to not only carry similar rim to body ratio as the bi-metal model it was designed after but also give a similar feel.
What actually transpired was a mono-metal version of the YoYo that surpassed its bi-metal counterpart. The double rim design helps balance some mid-weight while the overhanging rim allows for functional thumb grinds and extra weight on the furthest point of the YoYo but moved down closer to the center.
Wider yo-yos have become more of a trend in the last few years and Centripetal is no exception, while broadening the gap and effective trapeze width of the YoYo you will find the characteristics of much wider yo-yos while maintaining a manageable width for hand feel. The overall delivery you will find is unsurpassed in the Motion lineup to this point.
We wanted to make sure that our second monometal YoYo was as large of a hit as the first one, and we think this design is about as close to perfect for the shape as it gets.”
“This YoYo is one of the most stunning designs to come out of the Motion laboratory. Every single angle of this YoYo has been thought out to the fullest extent.
From the gap shot, the undercut below the rims make it look like the rims are “elevated” off the YoYo body, giving a cool optical illusion effect.
The cup design features the Motion Sunken Dome, with a stepped wall going down the cup (sonic ripple design). Around the dome we implemented a dual rim design, which was used previously on our Linear monometal.
Using a 7068 alloy allows us to manipulate the wall thickness more so than a 6061 application. The extreme design of this YoYo cost us more than any of the previous models that we have done, and we fully feel like this YoYo was worth it.
It is crazy that this YoYo was literally created in one night between me and @hesperaux. The proto only needed a few very small tweaks. We think you will love this YoYo as much as we do.
One night @hesperaux and I decided to crank out a really radical H design. We talked about some of the more radical H shaped designs out there. Some really awesome H shapes that came to mind were the Pixelape from MFD, Cliff from CLYW, Fat Tire from OneDrop, just to name a few. We wanted to do something that not only played amazing but looked the part as well.
First we started with the outline; we knew we wanted it to be a bi-metal YoYo (kinda our thing), then we started to talk about the design features that we wanted. Starting with the catch zone, we wanted to have the optical illusion of the rims not being connected to the YoYo, so we had to do an extreme cutback into the YoYo body to achieve this. We wanted the stainless steel portion to look like it was just the metal floating above the YoYo – we achieved this.
Sliding down into the catch zone you see cuts and light reflections placed strategically so that it looks amazing from all angles. This should be a familiar feature for people who follow Motion designs.
Turning the YoYo to the cup – you will see a few familiar features. One item we always try to implement is the “sunken dome” which looks as if it’s sinking into the YoYo. On Elevated we used a “Sonic Ripple Design” which is essentially strategically placed steps down the YoYo cup to adjust weight distribution to the places we felt would achieve both maximum stability and unwavering performance. Lastly we wanted to pull over the Dual Rim design that we had implemented in our monometal, Linear, to round out the cup design. This achieves an awesome look and some gives us extra weight where we wanted it.
Overall we wanted a H YoYo that was radical and memorable. We nailed it.
As with all our releases don’t let the specs drive your notion on how the YoYo will play or feel.
The YoYo is stable and powerful, we used a slightly over-sized diameter to help keep the RPM’s up while you are moving through a trick set, we used a reasonably wide width to help the player never miss landing on the string.
The “Sonic Ripple Design” is essentially built in weight walls that manipulate how the weight distribution ramps up on the body, it’s light in some areas and weighted in others, this leads to a very unique play feel that will leave you wondering how this YoYo feels the way it does and it’s weight being as light as it is.
Lastly the “dual rim” does help maintain stability as well as add some mid-weight to help balance the YoYo.
We hope this YoYo exceeds your expectations as much as it exceeded ours.
Parallel is the final installment in a series of Perpetual-inspired yoyos. We give credit to proto team member Hunter Cuniff for his idea to create a “mini” Perpetual. The idea was planted almost immediately after Perpetual prototypes arrived, and it took a long time to finally create it. But it was well worth the wait.
Parallel is Motion’s first D bearing yoyo. The D bearing is the perfect size for the undersized specs this yoyo features. While we don’t consider this yoyo a “mini” at 52mm diameter, it is definitely undersized. The H shape, incredible boundary-pushing weight distribution (the body weighs only 8.45 grams per half!), and the overall light weight (less than 61g), make this yoyo perform astoundingly for its size.
Undersized yoyos often suffer from being heavy on the string. Not the case here. The yoyo feels natural, like a full-size, and it spins a long time. This is a yoyo you can truly throw in your pocket and, with it, do any trick. Incredible stability, speed, and compactness. It handles 5A, tech tricks, slacks, rejections, whips, all the things, with ease. Our customers have used it in a variety of awesome ways.
