Wolf History

The Wolf was the signature yoyo for the 2012 Trick Innovator of the Year award winner, and Mobius master, Daniel “Zammy” Ickler. Zammy was kind enough to put together the info and photos for this page.

Wolves are sorted by release date, starting with the prototype.

The Prototype Black Wolves – Roughly April 2016 is when Jake got the package for the protos. At least according to his Blog # 32 – I received 1, Jake had kept 1 and he had I believe 2 more for either gifting to friends or a giveaway. ~Z

First blood, Warpath Swirl and Andromeda These were the first 3 colorways that made it to the public and were sold via YoYoExpert and La Tienda Del Yoyo. Released November 23rd, 2016.

“Paradise Fade Swirl” – Silver base with Blue/Green/Yellow/Orange fade swirl. The Yoyo was released at G-squared Yoyos on “Cyber-Monday,” November 28th, 2016. Less than five were officially sold and is considered in the G2 community to be the rarest possible Wolf out of all the colorways.

Unicorn Swirl – Purple/Blue/Pink mix swirl color. Sold via the G-squared yoyos webstore on December 6th, 2016. Worthy note: Jacob had a 1 of 1 special Unicorn made for Zammy (me), in the inside cup the word “Flow” or “Wolf” was anodized. Unfortunately, I never got around to taking a photo, so the next time I’ll take one for you.

Arctic Swirl – Clear base with aqua blue swirl. It was never named officially, nor did it have an official release date. The first photos posted of the Arctic Wolf was posted towards the end of December 2016. Within the G2 community, the yoyo received the unofficial name of “Arctic” Swirl.

Solid Clear – Clear coat. This was also never officially named, nor did it have an official release. I know of only three people that own the solid clear, and I am one of them.

Both yoyos were given away to friends or sold hand to hand at contests. There is no official photo from Jacob on the solid clear colorway.

Snozberries” swirl – Darker orange with pink acid wash and blue swirl combination. These were sold direct from Jacob via his website on March 14th, 2017.

Berries And Creme – Pink/Purple acid wash with a silver splash. The yoyo was released on March 20th 2017 via Jacobs G2 webstore online.

Gulf Coast – Royal blue base with an aqua and reddish-copper color swirl. The Golf Coast Wolf was released on April 10th, 2017, at Jacob’s G2 Webstore online.

World-Breaker – Green base with blue/purple speckle and blue/purple swirl. Depended upon how the light would hit the yoyo. The World Breaker Wolf was released on August 30th, 2017, at Jacobs G2 webstore online.

Purple and Black AL7 editions – Solid colors developed in 7075 grade aluminum. The official release of the Solid Purple AL7 was sold on September 8th, 2017, via Jacobs G2 webstore. From what I understand, the Solid Black AL7’s were never released to the public and only 1 or 2 of them were ever put together and given to friends. The rest of them were literally thrown in the trash.

Arkham Swirl – Purple/light purple acid wash with that classic green G2 swirl. This Wolf was released on September 26th, 2017, at the G2 webstore.

Freedom Swirl – Red, White and Blue swirl. The release date was October 7th, 2017, at the G2 webstore.

Rainicorn AL7 -Black base with purple acid wash and then has a rainbow fade style swirl. Truly a remarkable, beautiful yoyo. Also was made in the 7075-grade aluminum or “AL7” which is G2 label for yoyos made in said metal grade. The release date was October 27th, 2017, at the G2 webstore. Jacob also held a type of lottery whom out of a group of people, whomever got selected got the ability to purchase a Rainicorn Wolf. Out of all the Wolf colorways, The Rainicorn Wolf is the most sought after amongst collectors that enjoy the Wolf yoyo.

Weapon X – Yellow, or gold, base colorway with blue splash. The release date was February 1st, 2018, on Jacobs upgraded new G2 webstore. An Added note- The name tributes to two different things,” “Weapon X” refers to the Marvel X-men character “Wolverine,” which then refers to the NCAA college football team the Michigan Wolverines.” Also worth of note, this was the first Wolf colorway to be featured on Jacobs “G2-drop” Instagram account, where new product is revealed and the drop date.

Warpath v2 – Interesting enough, Jacob did another run of the Warpath colorway but instead of it being the swirl effect, he chose to do a “speckle” edition. The result came to be a darker grey base with white and red speckle. The release date was February 15th, 2018, at the G2 webstore.

Heart-stone – Bright pink base and then also has a grey or silver speckle. These were released on February 6th, 2018. Literally not even a week after the A-grade version of Weapon X’s were sold. Both the Weapon X and Heart stone glitches were sold on the same day.

J-Grade Wolves – Called this because Jacob’s son Jonah decided to grab the Wolves from the desk, and they suffered a 2-foot drop on to the floor causing slight rim scuffs/scratches. Not enough to effect play, but not enough to sell them as “A-grade” yoyos.

The first J-grade came in a  Very dark nearly blackish-grey with Grey and White speckles. This particular colorway did not have a name, but the community had unofficially dubbed it “Gravel Road” due to its similarity to the Pelican “Off-road” colorway.

The 2nd J-grade came in what looks to be a lighter blue base with hot pink and grey speckle all over the yoyo. This wolf didn’t have a name for the colorway nor did it have an unofficial name.

The third yoyo was an unreleased colorway of the Wolf. It featured a Silver and Red Acid wash mix with blue splash. This particular model was never named either, but I suspect it would of been called “Civil War” as to how it closely resembles the Banshee Cival War colorway.

The J-grades were released to the public on September 13th, 2018, on the G2 webstore. Jacob also held a drawing for the “gravel stone” Wolf from what I understand soon afterwards.

Galactic Explosion – This colorway featured a crazy assortment of colors. I believe it started with a clear base and then was added a red, pink, blue and purple acid wash and all of them mixed together to truly make an “explosion” of colors. The release date was November 14th, 2018, at the G2 Webstore. These were the last Wolves sold in 2018.

Mutated Snozberry – Orange and yellow mixed acid wash with blue speckle/splash anodization. The original Snozberry is a darker shade of orange/red compared to the mutated version. These were released on April 2nd, 2019, at the G2 webstore.

Plasma – Red and silver mix acid wash. These were released on June 1st, 2019, at the G2 webstore.

Retirement Wolf- Andromeda V2 – V2 version of the Andromeda had a much more pronounced purple in the colorway, almost lighter in shade compared to V1 when they were first released in 2016. This has the same color set up, it’s a purple and black acid wash with blue speckle. The retirement Wolf was released on January 27th, 2020, at the G2 webstore.
