Kyo
Kyo is a small-batch precision yo-yo manufacturer operated by Kyle Weems, a machinist, modder, and mechanical engineering graduate from Florida State University. Weems discovered yo-yos through a 1998 school science project and spent years combining his passion for the hobby with his manufacturing expertise, eventually building a brand known for uncompromising metallurgy and ultra-limited production runs. The Kyo name first appeared in 2004 with the Immortalis, a machined aluminum butterfly sold exclusively through Infinite Illusions.
Over two decades, Kyo released fewer than fifteen production models — each a distinct engineering milestone. The Phi (2005) introduced reversible spacers and inner rim grinds derived from the golden ratio; the TiPhiter (c. 2006) was only the second titanium yo-yo ever commercially produced; the Alph (2006) became the first 7075-aluminum Kyo model; and the Death Robot Mg (2016) broke new ground as the world’s first magnesium and dual stainless-steel bi-metal. In 2018 the Tinman arrived as the first diamond-coated titanium yo-yo in the hobby’s history.
Beyond production throws, Kyle Weems has served as a contract machinist for larger brands — notably designing the Duncan Vendetta (2009) — and pioneered a custom yo-yo design service using 3D printing and lathe finishing. Kyo remains a one-person operation with production measured in dozens per model.
