About Jacob Gross

Jacob “Jake” Gross is the founder and owner of G Squared Yoyos (G2), a boutique 1A yoyo manufacturer based in Canton, Ohio. He co-founded the company in early 2012 with Brett Grimes, the owner of High Speed YoYo — the “G” in G Squared representing both surnames. Their debut model, the Albatross, launched in spring 2012 and earned G2 the yoyoskills.com new company of the year recognition. In the years that followed, Gross became the primary force behind G2, operating the company alongside his wife Stephanie. The company ran alongside his career as an accountant until fall 2020, when he left that job to run G2 full-time.

An advanced 1A player, Gross contributed tutorial video content to Brett Grimes’s High Speed YoYo platform and maintains his own YouTube channel. His technical 1A background directly informs G2’s design direction — a catalog of more than 20 models spanning aluminum, titanium, and bimetal configurations, consistently oriented toward competitive-level 1A play. He personally hand-assembles and tests each G2 yoyo before it ships. G2 products have been carried by YoYoExpert and are widely collected in the enthusiast community.

Beyond product design, Gross hosts the Walk the DogCast podcast, operates the G2 Nation Facebook community group, and runs a Patreon giving subscribers early access to limited colorways. He has described his motivation plainly: “We do this because I love yoyoing and the community.”

In Their Own Words

From the G2 Yoyos news thread on YoYoExpert forums:

On running the company: “Each G2 yoyo is hand assembled and tested by me personally. Everything we sell goes right back into the community and more yoyos. We do this because I love yoyoing and the community.”

On going full-time: “I’m a husband, father, and owner of G Squared YoYos. In the fall of 2020 I quit my 8-5 day job to try and do this as a full time gig.” — Patreon bio
