History
The Russell Special Executive represents the apex of Coca-Cola yoyo exclusivity. In 1967, Jack Russell produced just 220 units as gifts for Australian Coca-Cola Company executives — none were sold to the public, and none were used as promotional prizes. The black-and-silver colorway distinguishes it immediately from all standard production Russell models.
A famous photograph from August 2, 1967 documents Dame Beryl Beaurepaire holding a Special Executive yoyo following a contest at the Southern Cross Hotel in Melbourne, providing a precise historical anchor for the model’s distribution period.
Original units include a presentation box bottom; the lid is frequently missing, having been separated over the decades. Current collector valuation: $2,750 AUD and above, with documented sell-through at auction. The combination of its executive provenance, strict production limit, and the specificity of its photographic documentation makes the Special Executive the single most sought-after piece in the Russell/Coca-Cola catalog.
