History / About
Introduced in South Africa in 1976 as a budget model for the Coca-Cola line, the Spinner was the first Russell yo-yo to feature the flat bulged sidecap profile that became the brand’s signature aesthetic. Prior models used the older slimline shape derived from the original D.R.I. mold. The Spinner replaced the Beginners at the entry-level tier. During the Philippines’ 1979 Sprite launch, some Spinner units were incorrectly labeled “Butterfly.”
