History / About
The Russell Butterfly was a prize-only model, never available for purchase. It debuted in Japan in 1976 during the first Coca-Cola campaign, with “1976” engraved on the body and rounded caps. Subsequent releases appeared in Hong Kong (1977, Sprite launch) and the Philippines (1979, Sprite launch — with flat-topped sidecaps similar to the Spinner). Its winged/flared shape set it apart visually from Russell’s standard slimline and bulge-faced models, though it retained the same fixed axle and starburst response of the broader line.
