Titania Folio 2862

About

The Doble Titania was an innovative transaxle yo-yo released in 1993. Its defining feature: two freely-spinning halves mounted on a solid axle post with threaded knobs at each end, allowing the player to grab the yo-yo by its hubs while it was spinning. This proto-hubstack concept predated modern ball-bearing hubstacks by nearly a decade. The heavy string — a thick cord tethered to a small free-spinning brass sleeve with a leather finger loop — was an integral part of the design.

At 120 grams the Titania was exceptionally heavy for its era. The gap was narrow by modern standards, but the freely-spinning halves were a genuine mechanical innovation. Like all Doble models, the Titania featured McAvoy’s adjustable lapper disc gap mechanism. It was never produced in a butterfly profile. John McAvoy held US Patent 5,254,027 (1993) covering the core design.
