Doble

Doble Inc. was a small boutique American yo-yo manufacturer operated by John J. McAvoy Jr. The company specialized in premium handmade wooden fixed-axle and transaxle yo-yos featuring a proprietary adjustable string-gap mechanism — “lapper disc” technology — that let players fine-tune frictional drag via threaded knobs. McAvoy held three US patents covering the design.

The Doble Calypso held a world record for fixed-axle sleep time at 63 seconds. The Titania, released in 1993, featured an innovative transaxle design where two freely-spinning halves allowed the player to grab the spinning yo-yo by its hubs — a concept predating modern hubstacks by nearly a decade. Doble operated quietly without major retail presence, with McAvoy crafting each yo-yo by hand. As late as 2007 the company was still producing yo-yos. The company is believed to have closed sometime in the late 2000s.
