American Spinners was founded in 1988 by Bill Cress and made one-piece wooden yo-yos with exotic finishes, according to the YoYo Wiki, which says the line was still produced as late as 1999. The Yo-Yo Museum says the company began during the late-1980s boom from the Smothers Brothers Yo-Yo Man routine, seeking a high-quality one-piece yo-yo like those of the golden age, and that all models except one used the same standard blank, with a raised logo face. The Venice Beach series, announced in 1990, was a prototype series of one-piece maple yo-yos with paint drips and splatter; the Yo-Yo Museum says it was never put into full production and sold, though many one-of-a-kind test pieces were made and occasionally appear for sale or auction. The museum’s white example measures 59 mm diameter, 31.5 mm width and 50.16 g and came in a Yo-Yo Garage; the Collector price of $16.50 is cited for it.
