History

Alox Manufacturing Company began in 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri, as a shoelace maker, later adding kites, marbles and jump ropes, and entered yo-yo manufacturing in the 1930s. YoYo Wiki, citing Lucky Meisenheimer’s collector guide, says Alox bought yo-yo halves from other manufacturers and painted and assembled them, selling pegged models at 10 cents and one-piece free-spinning models at 15 cents. A jeweled model was also released, and an unreleased butterfly model was experimented with.
