The Dink is the miniature stainless steel member of the Dunk family, with a name Jake had planned since the Dunk launched. As Jake explains: “I’m an avid fisherman, and in that world when you unintentionally catch a small fish — usually a bass — they are called ‘dinks.’ Fast forward to the Dunk becoming a real yoyo, Dink and Doink immediately seemed like perfect names for the lineup.” Jake and CJ Atkinson quickly realized stainless steel was the right material for a yo-yo this small — there are plenty of undersized colorful chunky aluminum options, and that’s not what they had in mind. SS allowed them to go extra thin on everything and create something that looks more like a precision tool or machine part than a toy. The raw stainless finish reinforces that aesthetic completely. The Dink retains the signature Dunk profile including the inner cup bump, making it clearly part of the family at a glance. In Jake’s 20 years of yo-yoing, mini-sized throws always appealed to him but consistently ended up collecting dust — “they play noticeably worse than their big brothers and feel like a novelty.” So the Dink was tested for nearly a full year — far longer than any other Jake Bullock release — before going to production. At contests, the common refrain when players tried it was “it actually plays so well!” Jake found himself using the Dink to learn 3.0 hooks one summer, noting the smaller size made them easier. He positions it as excellent for dense tricks and short string tech for advanced players, and as a chopstick learning tool and form calibrator for beginners: “it will let you know if your breakaway sucks.”
