History / About
The Screw Ball Mini was produced by Abbe Toys and distributed by Tomy in Japan in 1998 as the miniature version of the Screw Ball. At 50 g it is heavy for its size thanks to metal disks on the inner surfaces. It was designed by Takahiko Hasegawa (Taka), who tested mini yo-yos of 34 to 42 mm during prototyping and concluded 38 mm (plus or minus 1 mm) was the optimal minimum diameter. Unlike the Screw Ball it cannot auto-return; the clutch inside one half is for show. Hironori Mii used it for the hardest challenge of Team Off-String. A limited Famitsu edition was also released.
