About Rob Kitts

Rob Kitts is a 2A (two-handed looping) competitor from Perrysburg, Ohio who began competing in 2001. He rose quickly through the ranks of the Yomega-sponsored competitive circuit, winning his division at the World Yo-Yo Contest in 2001 and becoming team captain of Team Yomega — the squad that included Brett Outchcunis and Pat Mitchell. During the mid-2000s, Kitts was a consistent presence at US Nationals and WYYC, known for performing to eurobeat-style music mixes that gave his freestyle routines a distinctive, high-energy character.

In 2003, the US National Yo-Yo Museum judges awarded Kitts the Most Inspirational Player Award at the US National Yo-Yo Contest — an annual recognition given to a competitor who proves an inspiration to others during the event. In 2005 he appeared as an instructor on the Yomega Mania DVD, a 150-trick instructional release that reached a broad retail audience. Around 2010, Yomega released the Kerrari, Kitts’ signature all-aluminum throw manufactured by Rhody-O, laser-etched with his initials and designed around a stepped profile for reduced string friction and rim-weighted stability.

After a multi-year absence from competitive play, Kitts mounted a comeback to the 2A division in 2018, winning the Illinois State Championship. In 2019 he placed 2nd at the US National Yo-Yo Contest behind Tyler Hsieh — a result that placed him among the top 2A competitors nationally more than seventeen years after his first contest appearance.
