About Maty Držmíšek
Matyáš Držmíšek is a competitive 1A yo-yo player from the southern Czech Republic. He came to wider attention in June 2019 when SF Yoyos — the Czech brand founded by Tony Šec — announced his addition to the team, with YoYoNews describing him as “one of the best up and coming players in the Czech Republic/probably the world.” His style is characterized by dense, visually cohesive routines built around technical string tricks.
He competed steadily through the Czech domestic circuit in the years that followed. At Czech Yoyo Nationals 2022 he placed 2nd in the 1A Pro Final behind Michael Malík, earning the title of Czech National Vice Champion. In 2023 he placed 3rd at Czech Yoyo Cup Prague and 4th at Czech Yoyo Cup Brno, demonstrating consistent top-five results in domestic competition.
When Tony Šec founded Empathy, Držmíšek joined the new brand. In August 2023 he traveled to the World Yo-Yo Contest in Osaka, Japan, where he debuted the Empathy Empath alongside teammate Kryštof Nosek — however, he was disqualified from the 1A preliminaries due to his music selection not meeting IYYF event rules. In October 2023, Empathy released the Southside, his first signature yo-yo: a bimetal with stainless steel rings designed to his specifications for competition-oriented play at 54.4mm diameter, 47mm width, and 65.1g. He has continued competing at Czech nationals through 2025.
