History / About
Whirl-E-Gig was a small 1950s yo-yo brand; the term “Whirl-E-Gig” was used in place of “yo-yo” in the years when Duncan owned the trademark on the word. The Free Wheeling Tournament is the only model the YoYo Wiki lists for the company. The Yo-Yo Museum describes it as a plastic yo-yo with no inner plastic shell and a ribbed inner surface, with a wooden axle and fixed string, noting it could easily be converted to a slip string. The seal reads “Free Wheeling Plastic Whirl-E-Gig Tournament, Made in U.S.A., Pat. Pend.” The museum dates its example to 1955 and gives an estimated value of $110; the wiki records a highest auction price of $158.
