History / About

Variflex, a mass-market sporting goods company founded in 1977 by Raymond H. Losi, teamed with Team Losi to have two yo-yos produced and an instructional video made (YoYo Wiki). The Yo-Yo Museum records the single yo-yo, labeled “Variflex – Precision ABEC-1 Ball Bearing”, as identical except for the bearing to the Team Losi Grim Sleeper and Da Bomb, with an adjustable twist gap and starburst response. The YoYo Wiki says the Variflex Pro came in two shapes.

A Competition Yo-Yo Kit was also sold with a clear-body yo-yo labeled “Hi-Tech Ball Bearing – Variflex – Variable String Gap”, two extra strings, two weight rings and a pouch; it retailed for US$12 (Yo-Yo Museum). Steve Brown also recorded a Variflex instructional video in 1999.
