About

The Silver Bullet 2 (SB-2) is one of the most significant yo-yos in history: the first commercially produced ball-bearing metal yo-yo. Released in November 1990, it achieved 14,300 RPM and 100 mph rim speed as measured by U.S. National Grand Master Dale Oliver in 1991. It was individually numbered and sold with a collector’s box, tuning tool, 5-string pack, velvet storage bag, and rubber weights.

NASA astronauts flew the SB-2 aboard a Space Shuttle, validating its physics beyond Earth’s atmosphere. The Turbo Disc response system was developed alongside the SB-2. The adjustable gap (3.2–4.2 mm) was a breakthrough for customizing string response.

Multiple anodized colorways were produced: Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, Purple Splash, Bronze Splash, and the “Infrared” edition. Production was initially by Tom Kuhn directly; from 1999 onward via Brad Countryman’s What’s Next Mfg. / BC YoYo. The SB-2 remains in production and is considered the ancestor of every modern bearing yo-yo.
