Da Bomb Folio 3971

History / About

Team Losi, a maker of radio-controlled model cars, entered the yo-yo market during the late-1990s boom. According to Steve Brown, who worked with the company, the Da Bomb had already been designed when he joined; he changed the axle from two nuts and an axle screw to a nut and bolt (Yo-Yo Museum company profile).

The Yo-Yo Museum records the first release as a CAD-designed yo-yo sold on a bubble card as “Hi-Tech Revolution Yo-Yos” with an adjustable twist string gap, a black side-cap sticker and an original retail price of US$15. It was released in October 1998 with a neon yellow body. A limited all-black version was reportedly packed about one per case.

The YoYo Wiki lists a diameter of 59.2 mm, a width of 29.24 mm, an adjustable gap of 2.8 mm, a size E ABEC-3 bearing and starburst response. It notes that the axle hub on the standard version cracked easily, leading Team Losi to distribute rebuild kits and extra body halves. Later A-Line and Silver Series editions followed.
