The Slappa is Jake’s collaboration with yo-yo designer Jameson Larkins, released in 2022. The design brief was deceptively hard: create a pocketable slimline that played like a real, powerful yo-yo rather than a novelty. The counterintuitive solution was a larger-than-typical diameter (~58mm) combined with a very narrow width (~36mm). The large diameter generates centrifugal force without requiring rim weighting, and the narrow width keeps weight down and the profile pocket-friendly. It succeeded on both counts and cleared the way for an expanded slimline family. The Slappa SS followed as a bimetal version, inspiring the Slap Jr when Randy Shreeves suggested going even smaller. A nickel-plated Slappa variant was produced at the same time as the Nicky Slim (nickel Slim Dunk), both batched together at the nickel plating shop.
