History / About
The Nap is a new organic undersized design from Recess, designed by CJ Atkinson — the same designer who co-created Jake Bullock’s Dunk family — and featuring artwork by Drew Tetz. The name fits Recess’s break-time naming conventions perfectly. The Nap is described by Tyler Severance as a “new take on the classic Recess Vacation profile,” and represents a deliberate diversification of Recess’s shape catalog beyond their signature organic full-size forms. At 51mm diameter and 50mm width, it is nearly a 1:1 yo-yo — a design where width and diameter are almost equal. As Tyler explains, 1:1 designs require undersized dimensions because a 60mm × 60mm yo-yo would need impossibly thin walls to hit reasonable weight. The 50mm width (widest Recess has ever made) and even weight distribution produce the “floaty” feeling Tyler loves without the dense, brick-like feel that undersized yo-yos can have when forced to use extra mass for spin power. The Jack-o’-lantern colorway features artwork by Eddy Dubell (Instagram: @spawnoftheed).
