History / About
The Joyride launched simultaneously with the Weekend and First Base at the 2015 World Yo-Yo Contest, introducing Recess to the world with a complete lineup in one day. The Joyride was the flagship monometal — an organic-shaped 6061 aluminum throw that Recess describes as foundational to “a modern wave of organic yoyo design.” At the 2015 Worlds pre-release, it stunned players with its power and stability for a monometal, making many rethink their preference for bimetals. The fingerspin hub and grind-friendly blasted finish made it practical for modern play. Colin Beckford’s 2015 Buyer’s Guide on YYE Forums rated it 9/10, calling it best for stability and power. The Joyride went through three major iterations: v2 (2017, 56.9mm/44.5mm/66.3g, updated hub) and v3 (2023, 56.72mm/44.7mm/66.16g, wider gap of 4.50mm, redesigned hub). The D-Bearing Joyride (current, $50) uses the v3 body with a D-size bearing for higher RPMs and is currently in stock.
