About the Drop
The Drop was ilinx Toys’ (Hollywood Modern Yoyos’) first 3D-printed yoyo, released in 2022. At launch it was widely recognized in the yoyo community as the best-performing 3D-printed yoyo available, praised for a wide catch zone designed to excel at horizontals, neck tricks, and body tricks. The design prioritized a fingerspin-friendly hub with a flat surface surrounded by a talon-grind-optimized valley.
The original Drop was printed in PLA plastic with a plastic bearing seat. While performance was strong, the PLA formulation was prone to chipping on concrete impacts and the plastic bearing seat could warp under stress—issues Ross Levine addressed directly in the successor model, the Drop 2 3D. The Drop was sold exclusively through the ilinx / Hollywood Modern Yoyos online store and served as proof of concept for the brand’s 3D-printing line.
