History / About
Hesh Enterprises is described on its site as a sole proprietorship of Brendan McGinnis. The Petri was designed and manufactured at Performex Machining Co in San Carlos, CA. The maker’s site notes that a blue/green half-swap run was sold at PNWR 2020 shortly before the COVID lockdown, engraved at a business in San Mateo, CA without interior engraving; later post-COVID versions were engraved by Brendan on his own laser engraver and add an interior engraving. YoYoExpert later sold a YoYoExpert Edition (half red, half black). YoYoExpert describes the Petri as a minimalist large-diameter design inspired by the A-RT Poupon and RecRev Reverb, with a narrow profile suited to unresponsive play and an optional responsive setup using a half-spec bearing and shorter axle. Its deep interior groove, called the “schmoove groove” by Doc Pop and the “moat” by McGinnis, keeps string friction low, and the wide flat cup is meant as a canvas for artwork, which inspired the name.
