HandQuake 1.4

The HandQuake 1.4 is the world’s first bi-metal yo-yo and HSpin’s debut commercial product. Christopher Kayatz machined the prototype (HandQuake 1.3) during an ABB internship, using the company’s CNC equipment after teaching himself AutoCAD. The pilot production run of 50 units featured aluminum halves with stainless steel weight rings embedded on the inner rim lips — a design concept that would define premium yo-yos for decades. At $125 USD per unit, all 50 sold out within days of release in November 1998. A slim Butterfly profile with an adjustable gap via interchangeable shims (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm washers). Each unit was individually serial numbered. The subsequent yo-yo boom dying out made continued production at this price point unsustainable.
