History

Dell Plastics Co. of Brooklyn, New York, known for plastic toy soldiers and flowers, entered the yo-yo market in the early 1960s with the Big D line, packaged in blister cards with a 1961 copyright. Per YoYo Wiki, Dell and Royal were sued by Duncan over the word yo-yo, which appeared on Dell’s packaging but not on the yo-yos; Dell dropped the line rather than litigate. The Big D Astronaut No. 605 has plastic satellite rings and domed halves with a fixed metal axle and gold hot-stamp. The Museum says its profile resembles the Big D Fireball and Duncan’s Satellite. Only a black and white example is known.
