History
The MAG Avenger is the first of two Series 2 MAG models, released from February 1 to April 30, 1999. Like Series 1, the Avenger uses friction from a narrow tapered gap for response rather than Performance Ring pads — the Avenger is one of the last Custom yo-yos without pads before the company introduced them across the line. The side design features five radially-arranged holes similar to a Lamborghini Countach wheel, and some dealers received units with different-colored halves, which was assumed to be a manufacturing error; however, matching same-color specimens were also produced.
The Avenger “sold out fairly fast” upon release at $50. A limited black special edition was released at the end of the run. The YoYo Museum records a purple anodized specimen in Mint-in-Package condition, collected by Rick Brough. Retail: $50; general vintage unit via YoYoSam $58.
