About
The Butterfly was invented by Duncan demonstrator Wayne Lundberg in 1958, its flared wing shape specifically designed to make landing string tricks easier for beginner players. While the original was carved in wood, the plastic version entered production in the late 1960s after Flambeau’s acquisition and quickly became the companion to the Imperial as Duncan’s two essential beginner models. Its wide catch zone transforms string mounts that would slide off an Imperial’s narrow profile into effortless landings, making it the preferred starter yo-yo for anyone learning string tricks. The Butterfly has remained essentially unchanged for more than 60 years and is the best-selling wide-profile yo-yo design in history.
