About
The Hyper Dragon is a modular, customizable yo-yo produced in collaboration between Bandai and Matsushita Electric (now Panasonic) and released in Japan in December 1998 as a tie-in with the manga/anime Chousoku Spinner (超速スピナー). Described as “a Hyper Yo-Yo born from Matsushita Electric Group’s material processing technology, sophisticated design technology, and shaping technology,” the Hyper Dragon’s modular system allows the user to swap Frame Caps, Core components, and bearing types to configure the yo-yo for different play styles. The Dragon Tool (included) locks and unlocks components without standard tools. Retailing at ¥2,200 — the same price as the Hyper Brain — the Hyper Dragon was the centerpiece of Bandai’s late-1998 marketing push. It remained in production through 1999 with the Fire and Aqua variants.
