PoryKon

PoryKon is a professional 5A counterweight brand founded in Hong Kong in 2018 by six-time Hong Kong 3A national champion Ng Wang Kit (“Lowhand”) and eight-time Hong Kong 5A national champion Denny Ko Kwan Ho. The name derives from Pokémon No. 137, Porygon — both share a polyhedral form and similar pronunciation in Cantonese.

The brand originated in June 2018 when Denny Ko, while practicing for the Asia Pacific contest, found that standard counterweights would knot on the string and prove difficult to remove during complex tricks. He and Ng Wang Kit developed a bearing-integrated counterweight from scratch. A functional prototype was finalized on August 7, 2018, tested at WYYC 2018, and the original PoryKon bearing counterweight was released commercially in October 2018.

PoryKon’s signature innovation is the bearing system built into the counterweight body, which auto-adjusts string tension and dramatically reduces knot accumulation — a fundamental problem in 5A (counterweight) yo-yo play. Since then the brand has expanded into a full counterweight ecosystem spanning POM, polycarbonate, 3D-printed nylon, SLA resin, and dual-material (PC + silicone O-ring) designs. Signature models have been developed for Sora Ishikawa (5A World Champion), Hiroyasu Ishihara “PON,” Naoki Uemae, Jacob Cheng Hongye, Denny Ko, Simpson Wong, and Korean champion Jihoo Lee. In 2020, PoryKon collaborated with C3yoyodesign to produce the Porycrash — their only yo-yo.
