Fli-Back
The Fli-Back Company, Inc. was a pioneering American yo-yo manufacturer based in High Point, North Carolina. Founded in 1931 as a paddleball manufacturer, the company expanded into yo-yos and spinning tops by 1946. At their peak in the 1950s, Fli-Back employed several hundred workers and sold products worldwide, becoming one of the most recognized yo-yo brands of the era.
The company changed ownership from father to son in the early 1960s. Expansion plans were shelved in 1963, and in 1972 Fli-Back was sold to the Ohio Art Company, makers of the Etch-A-Sketch. The Hedstrom Company, the final owner, closed the North Carolina factory, moved production to Mississippi, and eventually discontinued all Fli-Back branded products in the early 1980s.
