History / About
Slap Jr emerged from a single offhand comment. Randy Shreeves — Jake’s oldest friend and, in Jake’s words, his “yo-yo life partner” — visited, tried the Slappa SS, loved it, and mentioned it would be cool at the diameter of the Anti-Yo Bapezilla, their shared longtime favorite. That was enough. Jake and Jameson Larkins developed prototypes within months, shrinking the diameter from ~58mm to 52mm. To keep meaningful weight at the smaller size, Jameson fattened the stainless steel rims substantially — producing an extraordinary and possibly unique engineering outcome: the rims now outweigh the entire aluminum body and guts combined. It is, as Jake puts it, “literally majority rim weight, and it shows when you throw it.” The 7075 aluminum body (an upgrade from the Slappa SS’s 6061) keeps the body light enough for this rim-dominated weight distribution to work. The Trevor Boice and Randy Shreeves signature editions carry the same specs with custom colorways and artwork specific to each player — fittingly, Randy’s edition honors the friend whose offhand comment started the whole project.
