Royal Big D Yo-Yo

Royal Big D Yo-Yo Folio 4241

History

Dell Plastics Co. of Brooklyn, New York, known for plastic toy soldiers and flowers, entered the yo-yo market in the early 1960s with the Big D line, packaged in blister cards with a 1961 copyright. Per YoYo Wiki, Dell and Royal were sued by Duncan over the word yo-yo, which appeared on Dell’s packaging but not on the yo-yos; Dell dropped the line rather than litigate. The Museum shows a gold-lettered Royal Big D Yo-Yo on translucent red plastic, mounted on a Sleeper King No. 602 card. It notes Dell was contracted by Royal to make plastic yo-yos, but it is unknown why Dell released a Big D yo-yo with Royal in its name.
