The Doughnut

The Doughnut Folio 3441

History / About

The Doughnut is Hubless Yoyo’s debut release, launched Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017. Marketed as the world’s first production hubless yo-yo, its hollow center was inspired by hubless bicycle wheels — you can see straight through it, even if you can’t step through it like a wheel. The design uses a special center-grooved bearing (15mm x 21mm x 4mm) built into the hollow rim rather than a conventional hub-mounted bearing. Several colorways were anodized in collaboration with GruntBull Anodizing, who produced at least two “Artist Choice” finishes.

Unverified/conflicting at import (Aug 2026): live hublessyoyo.com and its store were unreachable during research, so specs are drawn from secondary retailer/wiki sources rather than the brand’s own current site. Diameter/width/weight are reported inconsistently across sources (yoyo.fandom.com: ~75.7mm / 39.6mm / ~90g; en.yoyostorerewind.com and Yo-Yo Museum: 76.22mm / 40.96mm / 91.1g) — the museum/rewind figures are used here as the more precise measurements. Shape is listed as “Slimline H-Shape” by fandom but “Classic”/”Specialty” by other sources — unresolved. Response is silicone-based (described variously as “flowable silicone” or “Silicon Ring”). The 7 colorways listed are the originally documented set (Chocolate Glazed, Chocolate Dipped with Sprinkles, Good Morning Bob, Good Morning Frank, Mr. Purple Pants, Nuclear Power Plant, Red Vapor); later resales show additional names (Checkered Flag, Red Spiderweb, TS Goldflow, Black and Blue All Over) that may actually belong to the Bite Size model — retailer data for the two products appears cross-contaminated. GruntBull Anodizing is a production/anodizing partner, not a co-branding company, so it is not added as a linked company — noted here only.
