The Monsoon is a big throw. The largest diameter in my collection, as a matter of fact. Upon unboxing it, I was a bit intimidated, wondering how it would feel in my hand. After stringing it up and giving it a throw, my fears were gone.
An organic shape with a diameter of 63.0mm and a width of 45.1mm, the Monsoon fits comfortably in my hand, without feeling like I have to struggle to keep a hold on it. At 63g, it’s also lighter than it looks. While it’s made of 6061 Aluminum, it sounds very similar to Dressel’s Stainless Steel Oasis when you bind. Overall, it’s a beautiful yo-yo.
Play-wise, the Monsoon is lighter and much more maneuverable than I thought a throw this size would be. The shape and gap width make it easy to catch, though it feels much slimmer than it actually is. It’s also surprisingly stable for an organic yo-yo, which may have to do with its size. I’m not overly familiar with the physics of things.
Dressel Designs fails to disappoint once again.
