The Chief is CLYW’s bestselling and most iconic model. Released in 2011, its prototype was rejected in 2010 before the design was refined. The defining feature is a distinctive extra inner groove that redistributes rim weight closer to the center of the body, striking a balance between power and maneuverability that competitors struggled to replicate. Drawing design cues from the Canvas and Avalanche, the Chief was kept in continuous production for years and re-released multiple times through the 2010s and 2020s.
The Leaf (2022) is considered its spiritual successor, modestly widened and updated for modern play styles while preserving the Chief’s character. The Chief arguably defined CLYW’s second era — if the Peak established the brand, the Chief cemented it.
