Recess | PC Hypernova | S-tier

The plastic category is absolutely packed, stuffed, and filled with yoyos that do what every company claims they do: be just as good as metal yoyos. 9 times out of 10, this tends to be somewhat true, but with the caveat that it’s one of the geriatric gentleman’s yoyos meant for a cool, calm, and collected cold fusion before a cold drink with the boys or a night out with your wife. Rarely ever does a properly good plastic compare to a properly good metal yoyo. It’s rare for a plastic to actually deliver on being as good as the best metal yoyos. The PC Hypernova is still not as good as the very best metal monometals. With the catch that it certainly far exceeds the disappointing, depressing, and overall dreary monometals that most plastics tend to harken to “minimum” comparisons. Overall, in terms of performance, it’s a great generalist, with a comfortable and easy playstyle. If you’re busting out bangers and behind-the-back combos, you’re gonna wish you had more or have to condition yourself to be a more gentle banger buster, but overall, you won’t be wholly disappointed.

The other side to this coin is that the PC Hypernova is a yoyo fine-tuned for those easy nights where you need something capable, comfortable, and overall, competent. It’s a companion for when you just need to take your thoughts off the fact that gas is running you an extra $1.50 than it was just 2 months ago.
In all, I think everyone should at least try the PC Hypernova. It’s no Wilderness, but it arguably outperforms and outdoes yoyos like the Shutter, Horizon, and sits in a more pleasant space than something like the Optima by a far margin.

Compared to some of its adversaries, yes, it is a bit expensive and strictly speaking, slightly underperforms. The Faceless is just as performant but cheaper, and the AoE is a great beginner/intermediate/expert yoyo that can do anything for about a quarter of the price.

But the reason you get the PC Hypernova isn’t that it’s the best yoyo you can buy for the money; you buy it because it’s good to have with you. It’s reliable, easy, and comfortable. Pick up, wow the neighbors or some fellow bargoers, then just vibe out the rest of the night.
