About Thomas Rajan

Thomas Rajan is a competitive yo-yo player from Alabama who specializes in 1A (string trick) freestyle, with additional competition experience in 5A (counterweight). He took up yo-yo during the COVID-19 pandemic and progressed to national competition level quickly, placing 15th in the 1A prelims at the 2023 National Yo-Yo Contest and reaching the finals of the 2024 US National Yo-Yo Contest just a year later, finishing 6th overall after winning the preliminary round outright.

In 2025, Rajan claimed the national regional title at the United Yo-Yo & Kendama Contest (UYYC), placing 1st in the 1A final. He followed that with a 5th-place finish at the 2025 US National Yo-Yo Contest in Las Vegas. He is a member of the YoYoChampion contest team, the brand founded by two-time World Champion Gentry Stein, and has a signature throw through that brand: the Fire G Force, a limited-run polycarbonate-and-steel model produced for his contest team debut.

Rajan competes across multiple divisions, with documented top-eight finishes in 5A (counterweight) at the Northeast Regionals and UYYC. He competed at the 2024 World Yo-Yo Contest in Cleveland. He credits a background in classical education and public speaking training — through the Classical Conversations homeschool program — with helping him perform confidently in front of large competition audiences. By his own account he maintains a practice regimen of up to eight hours per day.
