About Abby Brodsky

Abby Brodsky is a yoyo player, workshop instructor, and geologist based in Baltimore, Maryland. She picked up a yoyo in early 2012 after finding a Duncan ProYo in a drawer at home while in middle school, and within a year was competing at the state level. Her first documented contest appearance was at the 2013 Virginia State competition. Her competitive focus is 1A (single-string unresponsive play), where she has placed in the top four at the US National Yo-Yo Championship three times: 4th in 2018, 3rd in 2019, and 3rd again in 2024.

She is sponsored by KnotCreators and collaborated with OPYoyos to produce her signature model, the Typo. The name references her well-known tendency to produce typographical errors in online chats; the yoyo was a roughly two-year design project developed during the pandemic, built in 7068 aluminum with a stainless steel inner ring. All colorways were named after minerals — a nod to her career in geology. The Typo sold out after release.

Beyond competition, Brodsky is active as a yoyo educator. She regularly teaches workshops at events including Baltimore’s Creative Alliance and the Baltimore BIG Kite Fest, and produces tutorial content focused on technique elements that players can incorporate into their own routines. She has also developed combined yoyo and juggling-ring routines for live performance. KnotCreators has noted her role as a bridge between the yoyo and juggling communities.
