Gorham Manufacturing Company
Gorham Manufacturing Company was one of the largest and most prestigious American sterling silver manufacturers, founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1831 by Jabez Gorham. Best known for flatware and hollowware, Gorham also produced sterling silver yo-yos as luxury gift items across multiple production eras from approximately the 1910s through the 1970s. Their yo-yos feature a sterling silver (925) shell over a weighted steel body and are held in museum collections including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and the RISD Museum. The Providence manufacturing plant closed in 1986. The Gorham brand is currently owned by Lifetime Brands, Inc.
